Needs organization

We went to this restauarant last year with friends and were directed to a table, wine was served and bread delivered. We had been at the table for at least 15 minutes, when we were asked to move to another table as the one we were sitting at was reserved for a particulary difficult customer.

Our friends were not keen, however we did move and guess what the bread didn't travel with us and the complimentary coffee failed to be offered again at the end of the meal.

This year I resvered a table 9 days before my wifes birthday, saying I didn't wish to have a phone call saying they made a mistake and had a wedding etc.

Guess what on the Thursday before the Saturday I had booked 'SORRY we can't have you here as the restaurant is not open to the public can you come on Friday.

Need I say more GET a DIARY and some RESERVED SIGNS

Sadly wasn't so impressed this time...

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We used to come to Zaffron regularly before it closed for its weddings experiment, it was my favourite eatery in Paphos and I was always so impressed by the whole experience. I was then, delighted that it had re-opened as a restaurant. I wasn't able to revisit until recently, and although it is still good and I would recommend it, sadly now it is not in my opinion great and I won't be rushing back, in this price bracket there are now better dining experiences close by.

I often judge a restaurant on their soup of the day, its not brain surgery to make a good tasting soup, but it does show a degree of understanding and care by the chef. Zaffrons soup of old was always superb. Now I don't know if there is a new chef in the kitchen, or if they have just taken a drive towards more health conscious food, but whereas before the soups were always wonderfully creamy, this one, brocolli and something, was watery.

So to the Garlic steak with gorganzola sauce, frankly very disappointing. The steak was cooked as ordered, but I couldn't say it had been within a hundred yards of any garlic, and the gorgonzola sauce (instead of been wonderfully creamy as in the past) was now a gluppy (almost nasty) thick demi-glace, described elsewhere on this site by someone else as 'Maggi instant gravy' with the smallest smidgen of blue cheese perched on the top.

Add to that a very overly sweet sorbet desert and house red at 17 Euros, I did not rate this dining experience at all. My overall opinion after I had reflected, was that they had kept the prices the same (except for the wine), but the quality had gone - I guess as a cost cutting measure - but frankly I can get mediocre food at any number of 'tourist restaurants' at a cheaper price.

Zaffron remains a favorite with many as the reviews here confirm, my review is an honest appraisal of someone who has known the place since it started.

Romantic and charming

We had a wonderfully relaxing and romantic meal here after having driven past this restaurant for many years. We simply took it for granted that it was there. This was our first revisit since 2005 when the portions were well presented but miniscule.

Things have changed and the have found a great line in fine dining, great selection of different meals, good sized portions, keen prices and a wonderful service staff who were exceptional and put up with our dithering about.

We had a nice party of 4 people, all ordered different meals, all got individual thumbs up. They all arrived hot on warmed plates, the table settings were spacey and everything in the right places.

Waiting staff welcomed us at the door with a smile and added to the ambience throughout by being there throughout our meal, but never in our faces. We were allowed to eat, drink and socialise at our own speed without the glare of management.

We were actually very lucky to get a seat as they had a wedding the day before and one soon after and they would apprear to reserve the entire premises for these functions.

Knowing about the seperate bar and weddings etc, I expected the restaurant to have that bar/fusty smell about it but enjoyed the clean fragrant smells.

I cannot recommend highly enough.

Excellent meal

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
We had dinner here last night – a quiet Tuesday evening - we being the first arrivals with only four tables having been taken by the time we left. We had last eaten here a few years ago prior to it becoming a Wedding Venue only. It’s good to see that Zaffron’s has ‘reverted’ to being a restaurant. However, I understand it is still in great demand as a wedding reception venue when the restaurant itself will be signposted as ‘fully booked’ so check before arriving without a booking!

We were welcomed by friendly and efficient staff and ordered from a pleasing menu. Our porcini ravioli and carpaccio starters were followed by a fillet steak with peppered sauce and lamb cutlets. It was good to see that the varied (and excellent) selection of vegetables served were not an ‘extra’ – a pleasant change from the practice of so many restaurants these days. The portions were very generous and the quality of both the steak & lamb were excellent as was the Key Lime pie dessert. All washed down with a bottle of the, surprisingly good, house red wine- we were pleasantly full when we left!

The restaurant ambience is very pleasant indeed and the music played was not obtrusive. it is certainly well worth a visit.
Best Point ? The food
Worst Point ? The 'squirty' cream with desert.

best food in town

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We used to go to Zaffron a lot before it closed for weddings only. I look forward to going again now that they reopened to the public. Zaffron gets top marks from me for everything, food is always delicious with a great menu of fantastic and somewhat unsual dishes- at least for the local restaurants. The atmosphere and decor deserves a special mention, you can tell that they spent some time thinking of the decor, making sure things match, and that theres somfortable seating- i particularly like the lighting and the music there. Also, great parking.
The prices are fine, maybe a bit expensive for paphos, but if you had similar dishes in London for example u'd certainly pay more than Zaffron charge.
The cocktails there are the best, maybe only rivalled by Elysium. Desserts are also heavenly.
All in all it's a fabulous place with fabulous food, service and atmosphere., Worth every penny.
Best Point ? food and decor
Worst Point ? none

Lovely to find our 'local' Zaffron open for Jenny's birthday meal.
Overall still very high quality & reasonable price (83 euro for 2, - 3 courses, & several drinks including cocktails relaxing on the leather sofa's!!)
Busy for a Thursday night, perhaps give the desserts a miss next time, too filling !!

Welcome Back

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Dined here friday night, not been for a while as they were mostly only open for wedding receptions. We were not disappointed, the food and service were just as good as always. Our meal consisted of, two starters two mains and one sweet which we shared. The selection of vegetables which came with the main course was truly excellent. For drinks we had a G&T one large Keo and a bottle of local wine. Total for food and drinks came to Euro 66.20 which included a service charge, this seems to be the norm now so no tip. The only down side at Zaffrons seems to be that they do not chill mixers or keep the red wine in a temperature controlled fridge, when I pointed this out to the waitress she replied most bars she had worked in did not chill mixers and the red was served at room temperature which is ok, but between June and September room temperature can be 30 degrees instead of the recommended 16-18 degrees.
Best Point ? Good Value
Worst Point ? Warm mixers

Value for Money

Went here for a Birthday treat and was not disappointed. Not the cheapest place in town by far but more that worth the money. The meals and drinks (for two) we had would have easily topped a £100 in a UK restaurant, here it came in at 75 Euro. Excellent level of service and for that special occassion, perfect.
Best Point ? Food
Worst Point ? Taxi Fare to the restaurant..

Brilliant Food

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Is this place still open as I thought it was just a weddings venue now? Haven't been for a while but this place is for special occasions. The food is excellent, quality over quantity. The surroundings are immaculate and check out the toilets, beautiful red glass bowls as sinks with pebbles for drainage. Very clean, staff very courteous.
