WORTH A VISIT

I have never managed to get there for a Sunday lunch, hvae been a couple of times for a meal in the evening.
Used to have an office next door, however they we not open during the week at lunchtimes, for that time of year.
They were extremely friendly and provided coffees etc when we were running a course which was an exception and a favour.
Five of us had eaten and only 2 managed a dessert, prawn cocktail, steaks all cooked and served hot and tasty.
The sons have taken over the running and it was a pleasure to eat there, it was not busy and no football on.
We would certainly return, make more effort to try the Sunday fare.

Great reviews??
|
0 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Four of us went last night, persuaded by me, having read great reviews. Now I am not flavour of the month for my choice. The food was bland and tasteless, and the staff/owners were more interested in the football on T.V. than their customers. We waited 30 minutes for the starters (2 pate, 1 soup and 1 fishcake) we all agreed it was just O.K. Then one hour from the clearing of starters to the main course, and it really was not worth waiting for - 3 poached cod and 1 fish and chips. Bland poached fish with a flavourless sauce. No pudding, we could not imagine the wait.
2 courses and 2 hours 45 mins later, we left wondering did we really go to the same restaurant as the other reviewers!!??

As Good As Ever
|
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Had'nt been to the Devonshire for a while, so thought that we would take friends for a Sunday Roast.
Chris was as welcoming as ever and after the free fishcakes and soup which were superb as always, we all ordered the Roast Beef.
Food was excellent with four empty plates to clear away. Bread and Butter pudding followed with one of the party and Steamed Sponge pudding was another choice followed by coffee.
All the food is cooked fresh and there are many home-made delights to choose from.
Considering it was a cold February day the restaurant was nearly full with mainly British wanting good home cooking and excellent value for money.
Always good and to be recommended.

Still one of the best
|

Back in Paphos last month, went here 5 times in 12 days. Couldn't fault the food on any visit; we had roast lamb dinner, rib-eye steak, salmon & shrimp fishcakes, pork chop, breaded prawns with chilli sauce, steak pie, T-bone steak and cod & chips, starter included in the price as usual and complimentary brandies. Price was always around 30/35 Euros for starter, main and 1/2 carafe of house red wine and a pint of coke, which I call not bad at all. Still one of the best in Paphos to me.

Lovely Sunday lunch
|
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I was taken here for Easter Sunday lunch and it was the first time I'd been there this year, and it was such a lovely day we sat outside.
Food and service still very good - choice of 3 roasts and at least half a dozen home made puddings.
Would definitely recommend!

Rock Salmon recommended
|
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Invited by friends to join them at their favorite local eatery last Friday. Pleasant evening chose an outside table (quiet road off tomb of the Kings). Greeted by attentive owner, who recomended the locally caught fresh 'rock salmon', so I went for a very tasty brits choice, home made soup, fish & chips & apple pie with custard. Friends & wife started with home made fish cake (included in cost of main meal) followed by the kleftico which was well appreciated & the treacle sponge pudding !
Lots to chat about so all enjoyed at a leisurely pace.
For a 'nightcap' stopped next door for a drink or three at the newly opened 'Copa' bar with a modern decor & an interesting menu.
PS Would describe the Devonshire as a restaurant, however nothing wrong in eating at a good 'cafe' unless your'e posh!

Best restaurant in Paphos
|

I've been going to the devvy for years. Service, food and atmosphere are always fantastic. Is certainly NOT a 'caf'as mentioned in another review. Sunday lunches are lovely and even when it's really hot there are fans everywhere. They have different specials every night and extra specials on Wednesdays. My favourite meal is the king prawns. Superb. And even when im really full as i always am after a meal at the devvy i can't resist the desserts...
Would highly recommend.

Amazing Food - Great Atmosphere - Best value for m
|
3 of 4 people found the following review helpful
Over the years it has been very difficult to actually go and have something to eat at a restaurant that actually keeps its standards. They all start off well, but somewhere loose their way. The “Devvy has over the years served amazing food, always greets its punters with a smile and you leave their happy. Sure, every once and a while someone will be unhappy with their meal, you cant please everyone but to actually say its a caf is by far misleading and untrue. As I said before, everyone is entitled to their opinion. So, here is mine - if you want to go out and have top notch, good home cooked food, served by a family who loves what it does and knows all its punters by name then head to the Devvy where you will get what it says on its card – Good home cooked Food & Grills.

Yuk.ok should clarify that.went here following good reviews on here but really disappointed. basically a caf pretending to be a restaurant. Can't fault the service they were really friendly and attentive but the food was rubbish.Had really limited menu. had fish and chips - really overcooked chewy fish and batter so over done it was dark brown.so greasy.cup of tea came with teabag still in it.Have no problem with this if i'm in a roadside caf but it should/could have been a restaurant.Won't be going there again..

Devonshire - consistency on a plate
|
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Just returned from Paphos and went here 3 times in a week. Although I have used the place for 7 or 8 years, I think that the present owner has upped the ante since he bought his parents out. Food is consistently of a high standard and must be one of the best attended restaurants judging by the booking of tables. I had sirloin steak, chicken & mushroom pie and veal steaks and going off the number of faces I saw on those 3 nights who were there previously, well, it tells it's own story.

Also recommend the Devonshire
|

I don't really think of going out for 'English' food if we're going out for a meal, but it's usually what the husband wants. We tried the Devonshire because we had met the owner previously and he's a great bloke. In 1 month we have been back 4 times, which is unheard of for us. The portions are huge. You are offered vegetable soup or fish cakes as complimentary starters, alternatively you can choose from the menu. The steak pie is melt in the mouth. Last night the OH had the pork special which was cooked in onions and tomatoes for hours, it was a huge chunk of pork that just fell off the bone. We haven't been yet, but apparently the sunday lunches/dinners are great and always packed out. It's not a huge menu, but it's all been cooked well.

Absolutely delicious!
|
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
I had eaten here before but not recently so last night with friends was a "new" experience! It was very warm last night but with some clever positioning of the fans we all managed to be fairly comfortable. There were 4 of us and we all had starters: 3 had fish cakes and 1 avocado with prawns which were all enjoyed. For the main course 2 had T Bones with a Diane sauce, 1 had steak pie and I had the tenderest pork fillet ever with a garlic and mushroom sauce! The steaks were judged to not be the best, they seemed on the tough side so the owner will be seeing his butcher! The steak pie was delicious as were our veg and chips (choice of chipped, boiled or jacket potatoes) plus carrots, cabbage and peas. After all that only 2 had pudding and skipped the jam roly poly/bread and butter pud and went for a very nice lemon sorbet.
The total bill including a bottle of Cornetto and a few waters was £48 and well worth it!
