Mothers was reccomended

This place was recommended to us by others, they must have been having a laugh.

It is set in a dirty little courtyard behind Debenhams, the tables and chairs are old and the tablecloths were threadbare and covered in cigarette burns.Cats were crawling all over the place and we almost walked out but decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt.
I noticed a little fellow with a tache serving a family drinks inside and he came over to us for our order. We ordered a couple of beers which quickly arrived as there was only one other table in the place with anyone sat there.
He then came to take our order for meals, I decided on the 'Homemade'soup, the missus King Prawns. The luverly jubberly man recommended the roast Lamb with vegetables and we took his word for it.We also had a bottle of wine.
The starters came and wifey proclaimed the Prawns as the best she had had.My soup was meh and if it was homemade she must have powdered it first then added water later.
The Roast Lamb arrived, freshly boiled in a bag processed slices of something, certainly didn't taste like Lamb and the gravy it had been boiled with was horrid, we had 2 roast potatos each which were nice and what looked and tasted like Dandelions. It was the most horrible tasting and presented pile I have ever had put down to me, the cigarette smoking idiot that served it to us had the nerve to ask if we enjoyed it as he took the almost untouched plates away, I just asked for the bill and vowed never to go there again. We have laughed about it since because we still can't quite believe it.

I have had to fill in a valid best for in my review,I think there should be another option, absolutely nothing or King Prawns.LOL.

Lovely Jubley

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We would never have found this restaurant if it wasn't for the comments on this site. The owner was telling us that the council won't let him put up a bigger sign which is a shame as it would be better if it was a little busier.
I was a little apprehensive when I read that the owner was a bit of a Del Boy character but he turned out to be a charming man who is passionate about his food.
My partner and I tried the Sidan (sp?) a local dish of chicken, pork onions, tomatoes and potatoes cooked in a clay oven and it was delicious. We had half a litre of local village wine, water and desserts of Baklava and yoghurt and honey. The meal came with free bread which was lovely and slightly toasted.
The whole meal for 2 was €31 and we paid gladly.
The fact that the restaurant is tucked away is a shame but at the same time it is situated in a lovely courtyard with a small carpark at the front so you get no traffic noise. I also loved the Greek music playing in the background.
We will definitely be going back with my parents in August!

The Best

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We found Mothers 5 years ago.It had been recomended some years before that. The food has always been spot on.The service is excellent.Kostos and his family are very friendly .Try the local dishes, you will not be disappointed. The house wine is also very good.Very relaxing, quiet area.We always recomend to family and friends who are visiting Cyprus.
The Restaurant needs a larger sign near the road so it will not take you as long as us to find it.GO
Best Point ? The food
Worst Point ? They close in winter

Great atmoshphere & value

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I love the warm & friendly welcome you get here, even though it is a bit cliche "nice to see you to see you nice", "luvly Jubbly" & "easy peasy lemon squeezy" being the catch phrases of the owner along with "if you dont like you dont pay, if you like you pay double hee hee hee"

There ia a good selction of steaks and cypriot dishes, and garlic bread is complimentary. The village wine is very cheap, and makes for a great value night out. £32 for 3 with wine. Fresh vegetable, and the only place we were offered boiled cyprus potatoes as an option, which was good for my sister who is diabetic. Nice to see the lemons & limes growing on the trees at the side of you. One or 2 cats were wandering in and out, and we found that in a few places, especially those that are open or outside.

Came here a couple of times for lunch. The setting was great, near St Paul's Pillar, quiet and cool. Food was very good with home made chips. Friendly service.

Costas the owner is a smashing guy & the food is sublime. His catch phrase is if you don't like the food you don't pay if you like the food you pay double. Guess what we end up doing?

Great value for money

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful
As the previous reviewer said, the owner is a real character, and within 1 visit usually remembers you and what you drink. I have only eaten here once in the evening, but have had many a pleasant lunch. Local bread is served with garlic butter. There is the standard taverna fare, alongside "British" favourites. Everything has been beautifully cooked. A proper main course (not snack) and a glass of wine at lunchtime was approx CYP5.00. Very good value.

Mothers

The owner is quite a character, and provides the entertainment fo r the evening, whilst waiting on.

There was a choice of cypriot and non cypriot dishes, I had a very enjoyable steak. The taverna is typically Greek, with vines covering the terrace.

The prices were reasonable, I would go again.
