an irregular favourite

We tend to visit this place a few times a year as we feel comfortable we will get what we need which i think speak for itself. IN September we had an old colleague visit at same time as family so meze for 7 was a logical choice. Even when including a few lunchtime drinks (3 drivers so not a lot of drink) the price came in at €20 a head. Its too far back to remember details on the dishes suffice to say everyone ate well but we left amounts of the latter dishes so portions are good ! One thing that pee'd me off is the bad attitude of the teenage staff (might be family members) doing some of the table service.
Best Point ? selection of dishes
Worst Point ? stroppy young staff

Worth the drive!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful
We have a home in Cyprus so come over 3 or 4 times a year for a few weeks at a time with our two kids and sometimes extended family. We eat out every day (sometimes twice) so have got to know some of the best and worst over the past few years.

Kyparissios comes very high on our list, the main downside is that it is a 35 minute or so drive from Paphos, but it is worth it. The views are wonderful the food is amazing and the bill is surprisingly small. Sunday lunches here are a must do, the meat is cooked in view and the accompaning meze is second to none.

Highly, Highly Recommended

fabulous

we ate here yesterday after driving past numerous times, i began with the mushrooms which were the best i have had in Cyprus!! my partner started with the village salas which she said was lovely crisp and fresh.
As it was mid afternoon the Kleftico was not available, so we both opted for the Sieftalia which was freshly made and full of flavour.
Will certainly be visiting again very soon!!
A must if you like Cypriot food at a competetive price.

Perfect for Sunday lunch

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
A group of us went to this restaurant for Sunday lunch and it was perfect for a lazy afternoon of grazing on the numerous dishes that made up the fixed price meze. The food is what you would expect from a traditional family-run cypriot restaurant - greek salad, dips, bread, artichoke, kritharaki (orzo psta), ravioli and souvla cooked on the spit to name a few of the dishes. Dessert consisted of deep fried pastries with fresh anari cheese sprinkled with cinammon and some fruit. Good service and reasonable prices make this a good all-rounder. The drive to kathikas is beautiful on a bright sunny day and all that was needed to top off the lovely lunch and drive was an afternoon nap..

Sunday meze

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

Great tasting traditional cypriot food with great views.
A lovely family run business it had a relaxed feel to it. We went to eat on a sunday and had a set meze, all the food arrived at once and there was bearly enough room for it all, we could eat at our own leasure and enjoy the company we were with. The house red wine is served in a nice traditional clay flask and wasn't too bad to drink either. At about EUR 15 per head great value as well.

We would definitely go back to this restaurant on our next visit.

The Real Deal ?

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
2nd visit here after having fixed menu last August. Had family over from UK and we decided on a short trip out to see some of the countryside so we targetted Kathikas for our lunch. There were only a couple of tables occupied so we were promptly sat and order for meze for 6 taken. It was an extensive selection of traditional dishes, and whilst we were there for a couple of hours we just couldn't eat all that was given ! There was so much on the table by the time we were told the last dish was served, and then they served a few more, followed by some grapes presumably from the local vine judging by the imperfections of the product - excellent taste though. Service was very great with food not coming TOO fast but then we certainly weren't waiting for food ever. The venue almost comes across as an extension to the family dining room giving a hint of intimacy but it is quite big with many tables that i can see it feeling "cold" to some. The bill was circa €18 for meze and a few drinks each (no binging mind!) so i think this is terrific value.

Would certainly recommend and will definitely go here again, it just "felt like the real deal" to quote one of our party, so i`m happy to make the trip up to Kathikas when the overall experience is as enjoyable as this!

As an aside part of party went back with other friends a few days later and ordered the same again and felt it was as good, if not better only because the meze dishes had changed as they should depending on what is available locally.

Quiet on the night

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
My daughter had been visting with us from the UK and wanted a traditional Cyprus meze before she returned. We had been to Kyparissos a number of times in the past but it had been a few years since my last visit and rumours that it had 'gone down' had reached my ears.

Friday evening and we arrived about 7pm. We were the only customers and were seated in the window by the road as 'bait' for passing trade. It didn't work :) Frankly as long as no customers does not mean a poor meal (and here it does not) I don't mind having the place to ourselves.

The meze was excellent - the salad with chopped cherry tomatoes was superb, probably the best I have ever tasted. Some of the hot dishes were a little overcooked, but I suspect when trade is so slack such dishes are pre-prepared and re-heated. Nevertheless it was all most enjoyable and washed down with a flagon or two of the (pretty good) house red wine. I however only had one small glass as I was driving.

At one point the owner's twelve year old son came and sat near us and played bouzouki for a while, which was rather pleasant. His mother came over to ask if it was OK for him to do so - which of course it was. We declined the offer of dessert, but got one anyway on the house(homemade apple and nut cake with ice cream), and with coffee we were given a huge plate of grapes.

The restaurant will not suit those meze 'dish counters'. What you are served on a particular occasion will be determined by what is in the kitchen on the day. On the half dozen occasions I have eaten meze here, the range of dishes has never been the same. For example we have never before had those wonderful cherry tomatoes and probably won't again, but the overall impression of the meal was excellent. The bill for four people was an entirely reasonable €68.

The only down side is that it is a long way out for a meal, so I won't be using it regularly, but when visitors wish to know what real Cyprus food is like it will be high on my list. My daughter will certainly want to eat there again on her next visit, and we will have to try out that Sunday lunch that others praise so highly :)

Traditional - Great Value

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful
Having been here for Sunday lunch many times we have never been disappointed. The service has always been good even from the owners children who help out on Sundays.

The food is tasty with salad, bread a host of dips, chicken, pork, roast potatoes and not a chip in sight. All washed down with a carafe of local village wine of course.

It's a good place to take your visitors especially if you are looking for traditional Cypriot cuisine.

Would recommend that you book for the Sunday lunch as the restaurant gets very busy mainly by the locals which is usually a good sign.

Sunday in August

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful
Had the Sunday special meze. Full of locals. First, lots of plates of things to taste, then a huge salad to share with the best roast potatoes ever and a plate of freshly cooked barbequed meat. The adults were friendly although a tribe of young children were waiting the tables and they were quite scary, I think they were not familiar with tourists. It cost CY£7 per head for the meze, then we all had puddings and drinks for another CY£9 for 4 adults. They then presented us with a huge plate of grapes and a brandy each. Would definitely go again.

Perfect Traditional Meal

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Bank Holiday afternoon for 3 adults + toddler and its a fixed "traditional" menu - no problem for us !! Started off with village bread, some dipped with olive and seasoned with oregano served with traditional dips/extras (tahini, houmous, taramasalata, beetroot, yoghurt) and village salad. Followed shortly by excellent juicy lamb & chicken souvla, roast potatoes and "Krytharaki" pasta. Dessert was juicy melon and "boureky" (sweet cheese pastry). Portions were more than enough and was fresh and very very good which considering the sheer quantity being served was a masterful display of restauranting.

The restaurant very very busy and initial "curt" service on choosing a table wasn't a great first impression, however having waited 5 minutes to sit, then 10 minutes to order after just 5 minutes the table was full of excellent food so sometimes the fixed menu has its benefits.

A bank holiday eating excellent traditional Cyprus food rounded off by Cypriot staff speaking Greek and broken English in a grape laden vine covered outside veranda - perfect. Food for three and a round of drinks for CY24 - excellent again.

I will certainly try this restaurant again to see if the standard menu and non-bank holiday is upto the high standard set today !

Kyparissos

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful
Have been here three times now, including Christmas Day at very short notice, having been let down by another Restaurant that decided to close afterall. The food here are well made traditional Cypriot dishes, the meze is excellent, I'm sure we left more than we ate. The family's front room is at one end of the Restaurant, where early on the whole family from Grandmother to granchildren whatch Greek soaps, but they welcome you like long lost relations, nothing is too much trouble. Greeks usually out number British which I believe speaks for itself. Views towards the close are spectacular.
