A TRUE TASTE of CYPRUS
|

A VERY traditional Taverna. When our party arrived I wondered why we had been asked to book as there were only 3 or 4 tables taken. However, within an hour the place was packed full. Great atmosphere and nearly all locals (always a good sign). We spent about 3 hours wading our way through a meze (which everyone was having in the place). What was nice, was the advice of how many mezes to order taking in to account the number of adults/children in our party. We ordered 8 for our party of 11 (7 adults & 4 kids) and even this proved way too much food. So bear this in mind. The drinks bill was embarissingly cheap as was the whole evening. Everyone was eating the meze and it meant it was easy for the cook to produce well cooked BBQ style food and homemade haloumi, dolmades, stifado etc, which just kept on coming. Very good for a true taste of Cyprus away from the tourist traps.

A good village taverna

We ate here with friends who used to live in Konia, amazingly for the first time, in late November. I had always heard that it was a good taverna and it is. We went for the Mezze and the amount of food was awesome, there is no way you could eat it all. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the restaurant was packed (it was on a Saturday evening though). I would have no hesitation in recommending it and will return again.

Great Meze

I have eaten here numerous times and I have never been able to fault the food or service. The salad/herbs that are placed on the table to compliment the meal are amazing. The meat is superb and the owners are very accommodating even when they are so busy which is most of the time.
Highly recommended but book ahead

We have just got back from a 2 week stay in Paphos. We visited Konia Tavern twice in the 2 weeks. First time I opted for a Meze, it was superb. Salad, dips and bread were all so fresh. Meats were cooked really well and the quality of the meat was awesome. The second time I went, I chose Beef Stifado. I had a massive plate of beef, that melted in your mouth. It was accompanied with homecut chips, cous cous and veg. Another great meal. If you would like a taste of real cypriot cuisine, try this place. It is far better than the tourist dishes in town and very well priced.

Konia Tavern

Went there for the first time on Monday - decor is basic, but the food was brilliant and really excellent value for money. Ordered one village salad with dips - surprised to have so much also maybe not for everybody as the radishes were served whole as well as the spring onion, but overall absolutely brilliant as it would have served four easily. The main course did arrive a bit too early for us (Michael did state he would ensure this did not happen again for us)- souvlakia but it just melted in the mouth and again so many fresh vegetables etc. You then receive a Cypriot sweet, coffee, liquer which are all compliments of the house. All this for under CYP13 for two - can't be bad. Looking forward to taking friends there tomorrow and trying something different.

I've been to this restaurant for the first time during the Eastern holiday. I was amazed from how many people were at the restaurant. After all, I never thought that a taverna in a village like Konia would have been so busy. Luckily we found a table and so I got the chance to experience this traditional restaurant. Most of the people there were foreigners - there were some Cypriots too but the majority were English.
The decoration was simple - like a traditional taverna, it could have been better. In any case you get this feeling of an old traditional cypriot house.
Not long after we sat, the waiter came and took our order: mezedes (well, what else?). The food was good, the amount is enough, the variety could have been better: some traditional mezedes were not in the menu.
I can't say we waited long for the different dishes to come, but in the end it really took a lot of time to bring the last foods. We even thought they wouldn't bring more because of the delay. But the restaurant was really crowded, so it's understandable. In the end they brought us some local sweets.
The owner of the restaurant came by 3-4 times to ask in a friendly tone if we were satisfied and this is very positive. A minus point goes to the service that was actually normal for such a busy night, but one waiter asked us 3 or 4 times if we were finished with our dinner - and we weren't.
I don't really remember how much we paid, but I think the price was normal.
To summarize, i got a positive feeling from this restaurant, and i'll probably give it one more try the next time i'll be in Cyprus!
