We had been meaning to try Tao’s for ages and finally got around to it if only because the brand new restaurant we set out for was closed on Mondays!
Tao’s, in the heart of the restaurant area of Kato Paphos, looks good from both the outside and the inside. We got a pleasant welcome and the service was efficient and friendly but, that said, it wasn’t a busy night.
We ordered Special Dim Sum and Salt & Pepper King Prawns as starters. The Dim Sum was a little too stodgy for my liking but the Salt & Pepper Prawns were excellent.
These were followed by sizzling Cod, special Chicken in a terayaki sauce, deep fried crispy broccoli, noodles and steamed rice. The cod and the broccoli were excellent, the noodles good and the chicken wasn’t bad - just a little uninspiring.
We were fairly full after this but interestingly we weren’t offered any desserts which suggests they don’t do them? Either way we were kindly offered coffees ‘on the house’ and opted for a coffee and a mint tea. Disappointingly the coffee was DIY instant with the iniquitous sachet and they didn’t serve Jasmine tea.
The bill came to Euros 56 including a gin & tonic, a beer and a large bottle of water which we thought was fair. It also came with their card offering a 15% discount the next time we went.
A very pleasant meal but Tao’s is not, in our opinion, the best Chinese restaurant in Paphos.

I came here last year and brought my partner this time who loves sushi and so was delighted that they had a japenese manu. We ordered sushi and spring roll starters and then sizzling chicken and cod with steamed rice. We asked for proper rice bowls as we were eating with chopsticks and they brought a more suitable bowl for us no problem.
The spring rolls were excellent and they brought out an extra piece of sushi for us.
The main courses were tasty and the rice nicely sticky as it should be for eating with chopsticks. We were full so had no room for dessert but they did offer drinks on the house which we declined. However, the owner/manager camne over with a Baileys and a Brandy. I hate Baileys and my partner was driving so we had to decline again! Hope they wern't offended.
Price was about €45 for 2 courses with beer and water, the sushi was expensive though at €6 for 3 pieces.

Excellent choice

Went here with 4 friends. We were met at the bottom of the steps and made to feel very welcome. 2 of our party were unsure about Chinese food and the staff helped them through the menu explaining dishes and making suggestions wich proved to be very good.
The food quality was excellent and the portions good. We were looked after like VIPs even though it was our first visit and we were very pleasantly surprised by the bill which came to €20 each with drinks. I would definately go back on my next visit.

Nice Interior, average chinese
|
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
I visited this restaurant because walking by I thought it looked really nice and indeed the interior is very well done even though it reminds me more of an Italian than a Chinese retaurant. Everything (including bathrooms) is very clean and decorated with style.
I think that the interior heightens the expectation, so when you recveive the food it is a little bit disappointing. The food is decent and what you expect from the regular chinese around the corner. It just does not have any 'wow' factor. The Crispy duck with pancakes was a duckbreast with a coating rather than a real duck with a crispy skin that could be shredded. The beef dish we had was rather plain.
The prices of the main courses were very reasonable, but the charges for the side dishes were a little ridiculous. £3.70 for fried rice. It was the extra for the rice and noodles that made this restaurant expensive.
All in all a pleasant experience let down by average food

Contemporary Chinese & Japanese restaurant
|
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The restaurant was clean & contemporary, suitable for wheelchair users with a ramp, and ground floor toilets, The ladies room was very smart, with modern facilities etc
Good for people watching as on the stretch between Bar Street & Poseidinos Avenue
The food was good and the service was very good.
Not as much choice as some chinese restaurants, and no set menus, and the Japanese selection did include sushi, but was limited , no teppanyaki
We chose to share a duck with pancakes from the main course menu, as a starter for 3, which cost 11.70 euros on the bill.
You order rice or noodles as extras so we had a further 3 main courses and 1 fried rice and 1 noodles, 2 Keos 1 glass of wine (large) and 1 soft drink, plus a bottle of mineral water, I have the bill in front of me, and it came to 65.4 Euros, which I thought was a little pricey for what we had, although I would probably return.
