Disappointed!

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful
I was not very impressed with this place last night despite having had lovely meals at Coliseum 1 in the past.

I chose from the Summer set menu (€14 for 3 courses), starting with mushrooms stuffed with shrimps, tagliatelle with beef strips in a sweet pepper sauce and creme brulee.

The starter was OK but I didn't think it was home made, the main course could have been hotter but the pasta was cooked perfectly and the creme brulee was again OK, nice crispy topping as it should be but custard creme a bit thick. My friend had garlic bread, a steak and the same pudding.
There was a Scottish singer who tried his best, bless him, but a mind blowing 'What a Wonderful World' sang by a customer was truly amazing!

Service was nice and discreet at the table, however when I rang to book the table the lady who answered didn't even say it was Coliseum 2 when she answered - just 'hello', so I had to ask her if I had the right place.

I was with my Cypriot friend who knows Nicos, but when Nicos came across to say Hi he spoke only to my friend and didn't even acknowledge me which I thought incredibly rude - in fact my friend thought so too!

I was being treated so no idea of total bill, but I think the steak was an extra €6 on the set menu charge.

Not sure if I would rush back - I am a great believer in first impressions, after all you never get a second chance to make one do you?!

Still my favourite restaurant in paphos

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Nicos is responding to the credit crunch by reducing his value meal to 14 euros, and there is a further set menu with a wider choice for 20 euros.
Because we booked in advance we received a free bottle of wine worth 20 euros, and a bottle of water, a party of 4 adults and 2 children.
In addition to the free drink, the low cost menu, we were able to use our 10% loyalty card off the whole bill, and still got complimentary brandies and liquers.
As a result this was definetly the best value meal of our holiday. On saying that dont think budget restaurant, the quality is up there with the best places.

The food was superb as ever. I had mussels, peppered steak and creme brulee, but there were a great range of dishes on offer on the set menues as well as the a la carte

FANTASTIC NICOS

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
My new wife and I got married in paphos on the 16 June 2009. Before we arrived in Paphos we had been talking to Nicos Via E,mails to arrange our evening reception.
Nicos replied to all our E,mails almost instantly and it seemed nothing was to much trouble for him.
When we arrived at the Colosseum II on the night everything was set out perfectly and we were made to feel very special by Nicos and his staff.
There were 20 of us eating that night and not one person had any problem with the food and to be perfectly honest no one should have had a problem.
The food was EXCELLENT and very good value for money. I would highly recommend Nicos and his restaurant to any one thinking of eating there whether as a couple or a party.
Thanks Nicos for an excellent night and making our evening special.

Very average

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
A large party (about a dozen) of us ate here last year on an evening when the Elton John impersonator Andrew Olliver was appearing. The entertainment was fine and the food ok, but not great. I also felt that it was expensive for what we had. They also got our order slightly wrong, but it was a busy night. As there are so many great restaurants in Paphos and this one was very average, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you are only going for the entertainment. The food was ok, but no better.

A Good Dining Experience

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We received a warm welcome and was impressed by the menu and the wine list but wish the volume of the wine was displayed. To keep things simple we all to elected to have the 20 euro menu which gave numerous starters, main meals and puddings. The veal was cooked and prepared just to my liking and the creme brulee was mouthwatering.
The staff were attentive in a positive way, unlike other establishments in Pafos, and convinced me that the management care.
I only have one small criticism the singer was too loud as wanted to converse not listen to a Frank Sinatra tribute, background music is my favourite.
Despite the one 'niggle' I shall certainly return to this excellent establishment.
Best Point ? Attentive staff
Worst Point ? The singer was too loud

great restaurant

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We ate here twice during our stay in late august, early September. Stumbled upon it on our first night and had the set menu. This was great value for money. The service was good and the food was excellent. We came back here by default on our last night, should have gone to Zaza's but i'll review that on their site. Suffice to say not a good experience. Anyway, we were that fed up, we thought to hell with it and went the full hog. No set menu this time, we ordered from the A la carte menu. First off this was the most expensive meal we had during our stay but to be honest i rated it 10/10 for value for money because it really was. There was nothing that we could fault. It was a little quiet, but by the time we got to sit down, following our previous disaster, it was almost 10 o clock. The waitress that served us was Eastern European i think, she was married to a British guy, and she was so freindly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and we all had steaks which were cooked to perfection. I like mine rare and this was absoloutly how i like my steak to be cooked. Fantastic. I can't remember off hand what we all had but there were clean and empty plates from all of us frm the starters to the sweets. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Please try it, you'll love it.

Adverage

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful
We ate here the last but one night of our holiday (a monday) we have eaten atthis place through out the years as different restaurants nothing seems to stay here long, so we went along, we stuck to the set menu, our starters arrived almost immediatley, oh had mushrooms i had the brushetta, very nice although a little lost on such huge plates, almost as soon as we had finished the plates cleared and the main course arrived (a little too quick) rib eye al pepe for both of us, the sauce was very hot, the veg consisted of over cooked green beans, three carrot pieces and something round and brown (but quite tasty) and a tower of potato like an croquette, again lost on a huge plate, we then waited abou 20 mins for our dessert order to be taken. We both had the homemade tiramissu (very sickly) and not at all like the uk version. Andrew oliver was doing his Elton John piece and i have to say that the poster outside said the best in pafos, i would say the only one and you dont need two, sorry but he looked ridiculous and singing was ok but nothing like Elton. When the bill arrived there was a survey to fill in about your experiences and i hope they listen to what people say on it. We came away feeling that we had been rushed to start with then ignored, i wish them all the best and hope things improve but one visit was enough.

Highly Recommend

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
After having a wonderful experience at Colosseum 1 in March, we were looking forward to trying the new place, we spent our holiday in Paphos with friends, and they were extremely impressed, and voted this place the best find of the holiday.

We went on the Elton John night, which was great background music, and 3 of us had the summer value meal, and 3 had a la carte. The complimentary bread came with the most beautiful sun dried tomatoes, and sun dried tomato paste. I had the mushrooms stuffed with shrimps

followed by steak in brandy and peppercorn sauce and pannacotta to finish. Really enjoyed each dish , the lasagna came with a plate of garlic bread and a plate of salad, excellent value, the minestrone soup was highly praised , as where the pasta dishes from the a la carte menu. The wine was the red tuscan Chianti, which was very good.

The ambience was lovely, and the waiter remembered us from our trip to the Colosseum in March, and said that he remembered giving us a loyalty card, which we had forgot to bring, he asked us to email in so he could sort something out for us.

The new venue is a bit nearer for us to walk to, and I am sure will become a regular haunt of ours when we are in Paphos.

Thanks to all the staff front of house and in the kitchen

Dont miss this restaurant!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
This restaurant is fantastic! We have rated it best for budget as the food was such good value for money - whilst still being extreamly delicious and fresh! We ate from the extensive fixed price menu - 15 euros per person, but still with lots of choice in the items available. The portions were huge and none of our party was able to clear their plates.

The restaurant is on one of the side streets off Posidoneous Ave, around near the Evis pub - it is well worth seeking out.

The service was great, fast, but not so fast you felt rushed and the atmosphere was good, ( I would only recommend they get some ceiling fans). We went on an evening when the piano player was performing - this was very relaxing - and to add to the entertainment there was one of the cyprus cats sitting outside who seemed to sing along to the piano - much to everyone's amusement, and as an animal lover I was pleased to see that the waiters tolerated him being there.

Finally the restaurant is the only one in Paphos where we were asked if we wanted smoking or non smoking - none of our party smoke so were very pleased with this.

If we had found this gem earlier in our holiday we would have visited again.

Colosseum II

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Having visited Kato Paphos many times in the past few years, my wife and I have seen this restaurant go through several changes of ownership and style, so we were immediately wary.

However, after our first visit to Colosseum II we both decided that for all round excellence, this must be one of the best restaurants in the Paphos area. During our six week stay in Cyprus, we made at least one visit to Colosseum II each week.

The management and staff are most welcoming and helpful and the comfort and cleanliness of the restaurant are excellent.

We both sampled the a la carte menu and were impressed. The wine list is very extensive and served with a professionalism that would be expected in a top restaurant in France.

The Summer Value menu,(15.03 euros £Cyprus 8.80) must be the best value on the island, with a choice of 7 starters, 7 mains and 4 sweets.

My own choice was the Funghi Colosso (breaded mushrooms stuffed with shrimps and the suckling pig chop with Napolitana sauce finished with Pana Cotta and an espresso coffee. However, I am confident that anyone will find their own favourite from the menu.

On the several occasions we visited the restaurant, entertainment was provided by Andrew Oliver and as himself or in his tribute to Elton Jouhn, he was an excellent accompaniment to a wonderful meal.

I am confident that anyone visiting the Colisseum II will be as impressed as we were. We hope it is not too long before we can return.
