Went there a week ago and I can honestly say that it was an experience of a lifetime. We were 4 people and we had a wonderful night. For starters we ordered the sushi deluxe, a mixture of different fish and maki rolls. That was enough for all of us but we had to treat our selves to a bit of prawn tempura and of course the delicious ika batayaki (calamari rings). For the main course we had two meals prepared in front of us by the charming teppanyaki chef, Bernard, as usual delighting us not only with his skillful cooking show but also with the perfectly cooked beef fillet, king size prawns, scrumptious mixed vegetables and air tossed egg fried rice. To top all that, while he was cooking the meat, out of no where, appeared a 2 foot flame delighting everyone in the restaurant. The rest of our party decided to order dishes from the kitchen, teriyaki chicken and pork curry. The beautiful aroma enticed us all to have a taste - what can I say but Awesome!! As if we had room for desert we could not resist the temptation of the teppanyaki pancakes, which is topped with creamy vanilla ice cream and fruit salad straight of the hot plate. Good priced and good quality local wine flowed freely, helping to make it a night to remember. The service as usual being first class made us feel very special. I would not expect this quality of service and food to come cheap but it is certainly worth every cent, every time!!
“I’ll be back” in the words of the famous Mr. Arnold :-)

Well Worth a Visit

Was a little doubtful about this restaurant after reading a recent view but, all doubts were soon dismissed. The whole ambience of the restaurant is great and the staff were friendly and attentive. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole Teppanyaki experience and the end result was equally as enjoyable. The food was fresh, tasty and a delight to eat.

We'll be back....

We ate here twice recently having been recommended by a friend. I live in Pegia and having had a few bad FOODY experiences in the past I always check on Paphos Eating prior to a visit EVEN with a friend recommendation – some of the REVIEWS nearly put us off eating here at all. Fortunately, my worries were set at ease as soon as we walked through the door. We were made very welcome and the service was good and the food was excellent.
The decoration is authentic looking. The seating is arranged around the hot plates. Entertainment is provided by the Chef performing juggling acts with the seasoning dispensers and banging the spatulas on the hot plate, the finale being a spectacular flame as brandy is ignited on the hot plate, sit back or you may lose your eyebrows.
My sister in law is Japanese (Tokyo) and we are both used to eating this style of food – not the cheapest style of food to eat BUT very healthy and of course you pay for quality. There was nothing that we could really fault. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. We will certainly be going back more!

Where do I begin?
First of all, the decor in the restaurant is very dated. I dont know when it was last refurbished but it certainly looks very old and not really in line with the Japanese theme.
The service was good, the waiters were very kind and smiling all the time, though sometimes a bit forgetful- forgot the bring one of the drinks that was ordered.
The food- the salad had imitation crab sticks- you know those sticks you buy frozen in the supermarket.. yes, i though that was apalling- where on earth do they serve these sticks in a japanese salad? The calamari was swimming in oil (swimming in oil- that sounds more like Chinese!!!!)The sushi had smoked salmon- NOT fresh raw salmon. The fish in the japanese should be raw and fresh, well it wasn't here. Maybe they ran out, I dont know. Sashimi was raw though.
The tappanyaki was a good show, but we found it very greasy, and overcooked with too much egg in everything.
The bill- EXTORTIONATE- most certainly not worth the money, I can think of a number of authentic Japanese restaurants who charge way less than Yukoso, but serve real crab, fresh fish and have a great varied menu with real Japanese food, but sadly they are in Limassol.

Visited 14th September 2009
A party of 6 of us booked the restaurant for a Monday night special meal at €38.50 for 2 including a bottle of local Tsangaridies wine.
The traditional welcome from the Japanese waitresses was excellent. They were very attentive and dressed in Japanese costumes which added to the atmosphere.
We sat down at a Teppanyaki table and placed our orders. The food was superb and the quality and quantity was above expectation. The entertainment provided by the chef was a great plus factor (see other reviews for details). We ordered an extra bottle of wine, once again the award winning Tsangaridies winery Ayios Efram from Lemona which was priced at a very competitive €8.95.
We will certainly be returning in the near future, everything was faultless and very good value for money. I have only visited 3 Japanese restaurants before, in London, Florida and St Lucia, this one was definitely the best!!

Excellent evening!

Visited with caution as with two young children we felt it may not be such a good idea.......to the contrary! We enjoyed a lovely evening, whilst the children were so entertained with the chef cooking in front of us. A chef that can juggle, play a tune using his utensils and create fire displays, may have used all his talents in the wrong directions......but not here!
The food was fresh, well flavoured, and cooked to eaxctly as we requested in front of us. An entertaining evening, in a lovely restaurant with very friendly staff.
If you want something a bit special......this is the place.

Love going to this restaurant, never get tired of seeing the chefs doing their show at the table, all the knife juggling and egg catching, really great fun! started off with the fish balls with sauce and a wonderful salad, (the salads are to die for, no ordinary salads are these!) we're not a fan of meat so had the salmon and prawns cooked on the hotplate/grill by my very own chef, with the most amazing veg also done on the hotplate/grill, was too full for the pancakes, but hubby managed one, you guessed it cooked on the hotplate with some fruit.
A very enjoyable evening and a really healthy way to eat!

I have become very accustomed to the high quality of the food at the Youkoso restaurant and still enjoy the antics and juggling of the chefs as they entertainingly prepare the sumptuous delicacies. Having now tried a multitude of dishes I just wanted to extend the thanks of the many guests who have accompanied me as well as my own to Stella and her super team of professionals.
Keep up the good work and well done.

A Wonderful Experience
|
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I don't normally write reviews as i have always been a big believer in trying something for yourself.
Firstly i would like to say i am an English Cypriot now living back in the UK. I was manager of the Youkoso Japanese Restaurant for Summer 2008, i have come on here to express my thanks and gratitude towards the Owner Stella and all the staff.
Having worked in Restaurants most my life it is great to have worked in a place such as Youkoso. Firstly, i was a complete novice to Japanese food, teppanyaki dining and especially sushi. Visiting first as a customer, my experience was something that i can only word as magnificent. I was guided through the menu by Stella, who also helped me order at my request, as dishes started to arrive i tried the sushi with aprehension guided through the basics by the helpful and polite staff, the flavours and colours were intense and i was delighted to have survived sushi eating pleasently surprised. Next came the teppanyaki, wow! the Chefs are trained to cook your meal in front of you whilst performing acts that keep even the oldest kid entertained...my evening over all was one that i consider a true dining out experience, it was an night of good food, great atmosphere and service and i felt money had been well spent.
I returned on many occasions, to find myself and Stella began talking business! I worked for Stella for a whole summer, unfortunatly having to return to the UK for other commitments.
Having first hand knowledge now of the Youkoso restuarant here is my honest opinion, and i am trying not to be biast though i really cannot find one bad word to say about the place...The atmosphere and service are second to none, the training and hard work that goes into running Youkoso is something that many restuarants could learn alot from. The food is made with careful attention and there is something for everyone, adventerous or not. I now crave japanese food and often venture out in London to eat sushi purely because of my experience at Youkoso. If i had to pick on some negatives i would say that on BUSY nights due to the fact that the chefs cook for you at your table you would have to wait slightly longer than normal for your main course teppanyaki, however this is the case generally in many teppanyaki restaurants (and some that aren't haha!) however it is truly worth waiting for. I can honestly say i have never been so proud to work within such a company and with such hard working people, and the best bit of all was new customers reactions, and returning customers who reacted exactly like the new ones on each visit. This place is a must try, and then you will visit again and again and again, and in my case maybe end up working there, but hey dont take my word for it, though do take my advice as i say for most things, and try it yourself. Enjoy!
| Best Point ? | Awakening all the senses! |

Most expensive meal ever eaten

Went with gang of friends so atmosphere was great. My hubby went kicking & screaming as he doesn't really like Japanese food. Our friend who is a regular there did all the ordering for us as we were novices & it appears he really went to town ordering Japanese delicacies. I enjoyed the food and it was my first experience with Japanese food.Great night until the bill came, €90 per person, (with a tip) there were 10 of us. We checked it but it was true. I expected to pay €90 per couple, we were all taken aback. We were given complimentary green tea. Usually half our bill is on wine but we had had pre dinner drinks and we were going onto a bar so we didn't drink much. The experience was different so when I go again I would have to take more care with the ordering.

Dry duckbreast
|
1 of 2 people found the following review helpful
I am quite spoiled in terms of Japanese kitchen and it is one of my favourite restaurant choices. The service in this restaurant is excellent as is the atmosphere. The food was average at best compared to what I am used to. The sushi's where fine but the tempura's where far to fat. They didn't serve foie gras on the teppanyaki unfortunately but they had duckbreast... But, and I have never seen this before, they sliced the fat off the meat before it went on the teppanyaki plate, resulting in very dry pieces of meat while it can be delicious, juicy and crispy. They also did not fry garlic with it.. The rice served was ok by the way. Anyway glad to have a Japanese restaurant in Pafos, I hope they will improve teir quality though.

Having never eaten any Japanese food before i was slightly nervous about going to youkoso when my husband suggested it,but having been i would definately go again. The waitresses, clad in traditional kimono, were very welcoming and attentive and the menu (although daunting at first)was quite easy to follow as it has small illustrations beside the food to help you as you go. The Staff are happy to help you go through it if you so wish and before long we had ordered ourselves a feast. We started with some deep fried vegetables and shrimps and then had various tastes of sushi - we didnt brave the sushimi (raw fish. Then the chef came rolling out his trolley of ingredients to our table where he cooked the fillets of beef and ostrich we picked with some egg fried rice and some noodles with vegetables - believe me there is no chance of leaving there hungry!! the food was excellent and the chef puts on a little show as he prepares the food on the "iron table" infront of your eyes.
I think it would make a lovely place to go for a special occasion and i will be be going back with friends for sure!!

I say special occasion as to me dining is always a special occasion. We have been going the Youkoso Restaurant for the last year on a regular basis and being a restauranteur myself I find the food excellent, the staff, the atmosphere very good. The chef is fantastic! Absolutely value for money.
Anybody that tried Japanese food before will agree that the food at the Youkoso is outstanding however, there is always room for improvement in any business.

Quality dining
|
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The main attraction for me is that non smokers can eat in comfort without their meal being spoiled by the stench of tobacco smoke, burning dog ends and dirty ash trays, this is primarily due to the fact that each table has its own air extractor system.
The management and staff are always very polite and courteous and go out of way to please just as is done in Japan and the chefs and waitresses are to be complimented on their service and performance.
The food is of high quality, expertly prepared and served; even after three years of being a customer there I'm still fascinated by the juggling acts of the chefs.
The cleanliness of the restaurant and its facilities are, in my view, unquestionable as is the dress and appearance of the staff.
I give a 10/10 rating because I have seen how improvements have been made during the last three years and am quite happy to patronise when I want a quality meal in a quality restaurant.
