I have eaten at the Almond tree a few times after been recommended and taken by a friend. It has never disappointed me. The menu is interesting and creative fusion, especially good for Cyprus.
Service has always been good, and all the food I have ever eaten there has never been anything but superb. I wasn't aware of the history of the Almond tree till reading a review below, that makes perfect sense, it has the service and hospitality of an old well regarded restaurant together with the skill and vision from a chef of 'today'.
I generally don't go overboard about fish, the dishes at the Almond tree however always tempt me to try and never disappoint, the crab cakes are now a favourite. It seems the stuffed double pork chop is becomming legendary in the area, it dosn't dissapoint, I have never as yet encountered it with any form of sauce or gravy, I think that may spoil it, the pork is succulant enough and with the stuffing it is not a particually dry dish.
If you appreciate great food, give it a go, it is one of my favourites in Pafos.

Went to the Almond tree on our recent trip to Cyprus after it was recommended by an expat we met in a bar and it didn't disappoint, It was one of the best meals we have both had in a long time in either Cyprus or the UK steaks were cooked to perfection and the service was attentive without being in your face. Already pencilled in for our next visit to Paphos.

We went to the Almond tree twice during a recent trip to paphos and both times we had a good meal, I really enjoy the red thai curry but I must agree with previous posts about the dollop of stir fry veg on the side of the plate. The desserts are very nice, my favorite being the summer berrie brulee. When we went earlier this year my husdand tried the famous pork chop but he was very dissapointed as it came smothered in a rich burnt tasting gravy (could this be the Maggi demiglaze mentioned in a previous post?) It really made him feel ill all night and kept repeating on him. Im glad I managed to persuade him a try The Almond Tree again last month, as both times we really enjoyed ourselves

Heavenly food

I have visited the Almond Tree a few times before so at the weekend I confidently recommended taking a small group of friends there for a birthday celebration and we were not disappointed.
Again the food was excellent, the tikka prawn starter was amazing and my main course of stuffed pork chop was worth a small wait. The chocolate pudding was to die for, heavenly sumptuous fluffy chocolate sponge with a gooey soft centre, I could eat only this for the rest of my life and live very happily.
The rest of my party were new to the restaurant and were equally impressed with the food and friendly atmosphere, they enjoyed main courses of mushroom steak, a chicken stir-fry and sea-bream and the waiter recommended an excellent bottle of local wine which was really good and reasonably priced. The creme brule and cheesecake also received the highest compliments, we forced ourselves a coffee and when the bill came we were pleasantly surprised.
This is not a typical tourist restaurant which is one of the reasons that I liked it so much along with its menu diversity, atmosphere and the genuine mix of people that you get in there.
Compliments to the chef. We will certainly be back and recommend this place.

Almond Tree Kato Paphos
|

I visited the Almond Tree on Saturday evening after great recommendations from friends, my wife has also previously visited this establishment and been quite complimentary. We waved the starter and opted for an aperatif I was quite impressed with the menu range and proposed seasonings . I chose a rib eye, my wife medallions of beef, these duly arrived a bit slow but if you wish quality it is always best to wait. To be brutally frank, the presentation was dreadful - a dollop of creamed potato slapped on the plate, a spoonful of wilted stir fry obviously cooked at the beginning of service to last the night,a labour saving ploy when the veg cook cannot be bothered cooking fresh for each table, the garnish consisted of some dried parsley thrown at the plate some actually hit it, the steak itself was good quality and cooked as per instruction. My wifes platter consisted of the same charming veg and potato but the medalions had not been butchered properly and the sinew had not been trimmed and consequently the meat was rather tough, the accompanying sauce was a trifle dissapointing port cream turned out to be a dark brown glutinous substance which tasted a great deal like Maggi demiglaze mix (again if you are going to cut corners at least sweat off some fresh veg, reduce the port and cream then add your convenience sauce) I made my feelings clear to the head waiter who offered profound apologies and a free drink which we declined I paid full price as I do not complain to get a free meal I just wanted a good meal. What did surprise me is that nobody from the kitchen came to speak with me,its not the veg cook its not even the sauce cook the guy on the hotplate should never have let this table escape!!
Won't be back ever.

As Good As Ever

Another place we always go to and we find the food to be consistently good, especially the epic stuffed pork chop. A few people have commented on the service, we've nver had a problem - perhaps it's because if you order the chop, they are baked freah and always take 45mins. As a result we always have a starter rather than a dessert. Only negative point is the traffic heading towards the bars.

Just too slow for us

I love the food at the Almond Tree, but on more than one occasion the service has been extremely slow.
We took friends in July this year, and the wait time was very lengthy, so much so, that no one wanted to risk waiting for dessert. It did spoil the evening. We have had similar experiences here before, but wanted to give them another chance because the food is so good.
It may be a while before we go back again

A simply excellent restaurant - but make sure you'

We've been coming here for 10 years or more and it is just an excellent, family-run, restaurant.
When we first visited it was a classic family-run restaurant serving standard Cypriot cuisine - nothing special, nothing wrong.
Then the sons came back from studying cookery in the Far East and the main part of the meals suddenly became excellent - though still with vegetables very over-cooked.
Then everything was worked into the menu and the food became superb in all respects.
Then the restaurant was substantially upgraded and it became as it is now - a superb restaurant in all ways. We have been there since the upgrade probably 15 times over the last 7 years - and never, ever had anything other than great food and great service.
So, what would you find as a new visitor ?
First, in the peak holiday period you really should phone and book first, as it is very busy.
The service is excellent, even if the staff are busy. The menu is a fascinating fusion of Far East and other flavours - and all the dishes are excellent without being over-fussy. Do, however, come prepared for a relaxed evening - this is not a fast-food restaurant. You'll get a complimentary snack after you've ordered, and then allow 10-15 minutes from course to course.
Be warned - the main courses are generally very large - so don't come here if you've already had a large breakfast and heavy lunch..
The wine list has a very good range and expands from year to year...
Star dishes to look out for on the menu..
- starters - crab cakes
- main - stuffed pork chops. Stir frys are also excellent.
- sweet - coffee creme brulee
I can see from the other reviews that not everyone has had a good experience here, but I can honestly say that we've never had anything other than an excellent experience - with the only downside being on a few occasions being unable to finish the superb main course because of the quantity.
Very strongly recommended.
PS they also have their own parking area for guests behind the restaurant....

We always return to the Almond Tree, we have been going for 7 years now and look forward to eating there.
The food is always well cooked and presented, never over done on the sauces with always just the right amount of accompaniments to the main meal. The wine list is good and the knowledge of the waiters is excellent, always ready to make a suggestion as to what wine will go with the meal.
My husband always has the Chocolate Pudding as a desert and he says "It's to die for". The Chef Andreas always makes a point of talking to as many customers as possible after he has finished in the kitchens and makes you feel very welcome, as do the rest of the staff.
Would not hesitate in recommending the Almond Tree.

we have been going to the almond tree for the past three years, i am a fussy eater and thought the fusion cuisine might not be for me. we got invited by the owner one evening to join him for a meal, having never liked tomatoes i soon polished off the rustic tomato soup, i had the mushroom steak to follow which was the tastiest steak i have ever eaten and finnished off with the chocolate sponge cake for dessert. the service was great, i noted someone wrote they had to wait for their meal. - hello this is cyprus its a relaxing laid back country, anyway we have ate there maybe 20 times and is definately worth a try.

Nice for a change

We have been to the Almond Tree quite a few times and never been disappointed. The food has always been well presented and tasty, most items on the menu seem to have a slight Asian influence but not overpowering. The staff have always been attentive and polite. Two of us had starters, mains, one large Keo one G&T and a bottle of local red for a total of 69 Euros. I did notice however that a service is included in the prices on the menu though no mention of how much this charge is,I will ask next time.

Less than average

We've been here on several occasions. Before and after the 'refurb' (which didn't look any different!)
The service was slow and not particularly friendly.
The food very average. Limited menu, little choice and pricey.
The wine was expensive, even local.
Not much in the way of atmosphere.
Always seem to end up there for birthdays etc as it's convenient for Bar Street afterwards, but I wouldn't choose it myself!

The3 Almond tree serves truly nice food with a traditional, but just little bit different choice of food.
The crab cakes are really amazin and the steaks great.
One tip, the chef seems to overcook food. So if you like it medium order your Steak 'rare'. I orderdered 'medium rare' and received it Medium to well done (slightly pink). Not what I was lookin for. Regardless it tasted very nice and I decided not to complain (possibly should have).
Nice place, but a bit expensive

Great culinary experience

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
This was our second visit to the Almond Tree and standards are just as good as two years ago. We had a bottle of their gold medal Cypriot red wine and though not cheap it was outstanding. The food was excellent too. We had the duck starter and the Thai crab cakes followed by beef medallions and the now legendary stuffed pork chop. It had found it vaguely amusing previously when a previous reviewer had described the mashed potato as "to die for for". I have to confirm that it is the nicest I have tasted anytime or anywhere. Other vegetable accompaniments were great too. The complimentary butterscotch liqueur at the end of the meal is a nice touch. We will certainly return.
