The most traditional fish restaurant in Paphos

Going to St George has always been a bit of a treat over the years. During weekends, the restaurant is usually bustling full of local families.
I would like to see all the white plastic chairs replaced with traditional wooden ones, however there are so many chairs out on a busy day that it would easily rob a small village of chairs.
Once you get a table, I would tuck into to anything fishy. My girlfriend doesnt like fish and usually gets chicken, which never seems to look as good. My big love here is Calamari, so that's my 'usual'. You will be disappointed if you are looking for anything that does any more than simply 'tastes good'.
Most dishes that you see seem to have been thrown together in the kitchen - but appearances will be deceiving. The village salads are always good, and dipping warm village bread into tahini is one of life's little treasures.
I'd recommend going on a Sunday with your family - in place of your usual roast dinner; or in the evenings to catch a beautiful sunset with a partner.

Simple food excellent location

I can understand some of the comments made by previous reviewers but feel they are a little harsh. This is not the sort of place to go for anything other than a fairly basic, fish dominated, Cypriot menu. Much of the fish is fresh but there is also a fair amount of frozen. Four of us, plus our one year old grandaughter, had lunch here today and the fresh, grilled sea bream was very good. The restaurant only had about ten full tables and the service was perfectly acceptable though we have eaten here before and it can be slow but then the Cypriots themselves do not hurry over their food! I've been told that it is absolutely full on a Sunday with local Cypriot families enjoying a long, lazy lunch.
The outside eating area is much nicer than the bland inside and the only real place to eat is by the wall overlooking the picturesque little harbour below. Outstanding sunsets.

Not the best

Agree with the last reviewer. Not somewhere that we'll visit again. Limited menu, and a lack of fish on the evening we visited. Took an age to be served, and age for the food to come, and an age to get the bill. The food that did come was basic, and nothing like the descriptions on the menu.
This place is mentioned in the AA guide to Cyprus, so maybe it was a off night, although we will not be visiting again.

Great view but....

Okay, so we did go there last on Green Monday but the place was practically empty.
We had to go inside to order the food and wait for it ourselves. The promised 'sandwich and chips' turned out to be a plain sandwich which wasn't even lountza and halloumi like we were led to believe. It was fresh but plain sliced ham from a pack and some sort of cheddar type cheese- kefalotyri?? possibly anyway.
Prices weren't bad- we were charged 5 CYP for a Cypriot coffee, a tea for one and two sandwiches but it could have been better and cheaper!
Only reason it gets a good mark for atmosphere are the great views!

Busy restaurant in great setting

We had lunch here and managed to get a table at the edge of the veranda, which was lucky. The place was pretty full, and seemed like it was popular with locals out for a weekend lunch. The food was good and the view excellent. The only drawback was the service. It was extremely difficult to catch a waiter when you wanted one!

Meal by sunset
|

This restaurant has a lovely serene spot by the sea, an ample selection of food to suit different tastes and has a traditional cypriot feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. I had the kalamari, which was nice, not too chewy, with an adequare portion of chips and salad. We went there as a family and no-one was disappointed with the choice of restaurant. If you sit outside, the view of the sunset is beautiful and adds to the chilled atmosphere of the place, particularly if you visit on a weeknight when its not overly busy. I found the staff a bit abrupt and difficult to communicate with - even though i speak greek !! - but they may just be part of the cypriot minority that need to brush up on those customer service skills ! Have recommended this restaurant to friends.

Good but abrubt

We went here on the Sunday of the August national holiday for a lunch and it was jam packed. We were "begrugdingly" (it seemed) found a table but the staff appeared to not know exactly how things worked, perhaps there were extras in for the holiday rush, either way service was poor.
Large selection of fresh fish available, from which you can pick your preferred. Was cooked perfectly, and served with the standard chips (fresh n tasty) and village salad. I wouldn't say the food was plentiful but none went to waste.
By the time we left (about 2pm) the place was packed with a couple people waiting outside for a table. The view -is- great from the outside veranda, if you get a edge table, best to book i think to ensure the view.
Not much change left from CY £25 (if i remember correctly) for three people so 3 fish, 2 large beers and 4 soft drinks. Will give the service element another chance and will go again.
